Beginner and/or Intermediate Animators:

A general understanding of the interface would be helpful, but not necessary. Beginners will be able to add some level of animation to their doodles, and more intermediate students may be able to animate more elements.

About the Workshop

In this beginner to intermediate level workshop, we’ll learn various After Effects features and techniques by bringing doodles to life. I’ve prepared a few doodles for people to use, or you can bring your own to work on.

Topics we’ll touch on (we’ll get as far as we can, time dependent):

  • Preparing art for animation in Photoshop
  • Effects in After Effects
  • Keyframing in After Effects
  • The Puppet tool
  • Rigging
  • After Effects Expressions
  • Animation Principles

About the Instructor

I’m a Toronto-based motion designer who enjoys communicating stories and concepts through animation. After graduating with an engineering degree, I felt there wasn’t enough room to express myself as creatively as I wanted to, so I began to learn about design and animation and haven’t looked back. Having come from a mathy background, I approach problem-solving (which there’s a lot of in motion design) with a technical slant. This has been especially helpful for technical things like character rigging. I’ve worked with companies in Canada and the US creating all kinds of videos in a filming, editing, vfx and/or animation capacity to bring their visions to life on screen, but most recently with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios rigging and animating character faces.
